MARIE-ANNE AUGUSTINE LACASSE (nee CARRIERE) July 9, 1907 - March 10, 2004 Marie-Anne Lacasse passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at the Villa Youville in Ste. Anne, MB at the age of 96 years. Marie Anne was predeceased by her husband of 68 years Marius Lacasse (1908-1999) ; her grandsons, Perry Lacasse son of Ron Lacasse and Grace Lacasse, and Clayton Lacasse son of Joe Lacasse and Monique Gauthier Lacasse; her sister Rose Anna Carriere; brothers, Joe Carriere (Eveline OBrien), Calixte Carriere (Emma Duclos), Romain Carriere, Toussaint Carriere and Jean Yves Carriere (Irene Demers) a daughter-in-law Darlene (Hunt) Lacasse and son-in-law Lionel Tetreault. Marie Anne leaves to cherish her memory, eight children, Damien "Luke" Lacasse (Anne Ranigler), Alfred Lacasse (Tracey Henry), Ronald Lacasse and Grace Lacasse, Jeanne Laurin, Therese Zeglen (Stan Zeglen), Paul Lacasse (Marie-Paule Lacasse), Cecile Tetreault (Mel Doherty), and Joseph Lacasse (Monique Gauthier Lacasse) her 20 grandchildren, Alfreds family - Lydia (Mark Lefebvre), Daniel (Shannon) and William "Billy" (Sherrie) Ronalds family - Dean (Alaina), and Maxwelle Hiebert (Rob) Jeannes family - Michel, Guy, Jose Solomua (Tasi), Luke, and Adam (Carine) Thereses family - Jennifer (Scot Halley) Pauls family - Margaux; 14 great-grandchildren, CJ Vey and Veronica Lacasse, Haden and Taylor Heibert, Erin and Austin Lacasse, Brittany Laurin, Samuelu, Simonne and Chloe Solomua, Mason and Jack Laurin, Kennedy Halley, and Ty Wilson; two brothers-in-law, Eudore Lacasse and Victor Sicotte and one sister-in-law Agathe Lacasse; and many nieces and nephews and friends. Marie Annes parents were Josephine Carriere nee Vermette and Alfred Adrien Carriere. She was born and raised in Otterburne, married Marius in 1930 and bought the hotel/poolroom in Otterburne. They started a family and moved to Winnipeg on Maryland Street. They then moved to St. Vital on Fernwood where the family grew to seven. They decided a larger home was needed and moved to St. Marys Road, where the last child was born. In 1961 the family moved to Lorette. In their retirement, they lived at Desjardins and the Chez Nous in St. Boniface. When Marie Anne was diagnosed with Alzheimer in 1995 they moved to the Villa Youville in Ste. Anne. Marie Anne was a loving, devoted and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She dedicated her life to her family. She was a member of les Filles dIsabelle, Les dames de Ste. Anne and the Catholic Womens League. She took part in many community activities like fall suppers, spring teas and bazaars. Her many interests included music, dancing, upholstering, sewing, knitting and crocheting. She had a passion for laughter and teasing. She was honest, dependable, strong willed, devout and willing to help anyone in need. Her family would like to thank all the staff and volunteers at the Villa Youville for taking such good care of Mom. A special thanks to Real Sarrasin, Stacey and Dominique for being there for Mom. Donations to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers. Prayers will be held at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St., on Sunday, March 14, at 7:00 p.m. with viewing at 6:30 p.m. Funeral mass will take place at the St. Pierre Roman Catholic Church in St. Pierre-Jolys MB. on Monday March 15, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. with viewing at 1:30 p.m. until time of service.
