JAMES "JIM" ROBERT BARKER September 27, 1922- March 12, 2004 It is with great sadness and sorrow that the family announces the passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Jim Barker, on Friday, March 12, 2004. Jim was predeceased by his daughter Joan Bates in 2003. He leaves to cherish his many memories, his wife of 48 years, Alma; his two sons, Garry (Janice) of Thunder Bay, Robert (Becca) his grandchildren, Lauralee (Peter) Merkley, Shelley Kessler, Allan Bates, Lisa Barker, Nicholas Barker, Christian Barker, Tracey Barker; his great-grandchildren, Chantelle, Curtis, Devon, Chad, Erin, Liam and Shawna; as well as his ex-daughter-in-law Louise Barker. Jim served his country in the Second World War. After his discharge, he married Alma. Together they raised their family in Thunder Bay. Jims love for the Legion led him to join the Kakabeka Branch No. 225 in Thunder Bay where he served as president and other various offices. In 1989 they moved to Winnipeg to enjoy their retirement. Jim enjoyed bowling, playing pool, going for walks, and spending time with his family and friends. Jim was an optimistic, caring and loving person who will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Alvi, and the staff at the Concordia Hospital for their exceptional care. According to Jims wishes, cremation will take place and a memorial service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
