DORIS BABAK (KUCHARSKI) Peacefully, on Saturday, March 13, 2004, at Fred Douglas Lodge, Doris passed away in her sleep in her 96th year. Grandma had always hoped to make her 100th birthday. Doris was predeceased by her parents; husband Tony and daughter-in-law Anne. Doris is survived and deeply missed by her faithful and devoted son William (Bill) Burke; her grandchildren, Lynn and husband Lee and their children, Shaun (Andrea), Christopher, and Alyssa; Nolan and wife Mimi and their children, Crystal, Candace, and Keith, all of Winnipeg; and Dale and wife Val of Caledon, ON. Doris was born on a farm in Rama, SK on July 8, 1908. Doris was the eldest of three sisters, Mary of Winnipeg and Inez of Canora, SK, whom she always kept a close relationship with via visiting or phone calls. Doris came to Winnipeg and resided at 398 Burrows Ave., for over 50 years until she had her first stroke in February 1997 and was unable to return. Her new home, after several bouts in the hospital, became Fred Douglas Lodge. Our family wishes to thank the care givers and staff of Fred Douglas Lodge for the love and care provided to our mom and grandma during these past five years. Doris was an avid 10 pin bowler, which provided her with many trophies for accomplishments, traveling to various tournaments throughout Canada and the United States; she was involved with the Winnipeg 10 Pin Bowling Assoc. for 30 years, as well as all of the friendships that she developed through bowling. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St. Refreshments and fellowship will follow the service. Private family interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fred Douglas Lodge or the charity of ones choice.
