ELSIE STEPANIUK Elsie Stepaniuk (Evanchyshin) passed away peacefully on Friday, March 12, 2004 at Concordia Hospital at the age of 64. Elsie will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband of 44 years, William; children, Stephen (Lillian), Nancy (Ed) Holowaty and Glen (Sherry) grandsons Steven, Jared and Zachery. Also left to mourn her passing, sister Mavis (Ed) Kaluzny, brothers Allan, Leonard (Marie), many nephews, nieces and godchildren. She was predeceased by her parents Peter and Jean; sister Adeline Woytowich and great-niece Jessica Woytowich. Elsie was born May 20, 1939 in Malonton, MB. She attended Devonshire School in Fraserwood and then continued her education at King Edward School and Isaac Newton High School in Winnipeg. During her lifetime, she worked for Stalls Sports Wear, University of Manitoba and later managed/operated the Stepaniuk Landscaping business. Elsie was an active member of the U.C.W.L. for 24 years at Holy Eucharist Parish. She was an honorary lifetime member with East Kildonan Horticultural Society. For many years she was the director of the junior gardeners program and a member of the Manitoba Regional Lily Society and School Masters Wives Association. Elsies passion was her family of whom she was proud of and loved to spend time with. She enjoyed traveling on family vacations in both Canada and U.S. Her home was always open to everyone. She gave of herself generously expecting nothing in return. During her life, she sat at many hospital bedsides. Elsie always visited sick family and friends to offer support and encouragement. Mom was a devoted wife, mother and Baba, who will be sadly missed by those who loved her. Prayers will be held on Monday, March 15, at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 16, at 10:00 a.m. also at Holy Eucharist Church with Rev. Fr. Darren Kawiuk officiating. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. The Stepaniuk family would like to extend a warm thank you to all family and friends who visited Elsie during her illness.
