IDA (ISHENBERG) SUMNER Ida Sumner passed away March 14, 2004, at the age of 92 years at East View Lodge, Neepawa. She was predeceased by her husband John; her parents, Albert and Julia Ishenberg; two brothers, Ernest and Harold; an infant son Harvey; sons-in-law, David Wilson, Frank Kuharski and William deBalinhard and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Mary Sumner. Ida was born March 29, 1911 on a farm (NE1/4 14-14-17) in the Odanah Municipality. In 1915 her family moved to the Gordon district (NW1/2 4-14-16) which was also closer to school (Gordon). She lived there until her marriage to John Sumner. Ida and John were married in 1931 and farmed in the Mentmore area until Johns death in 1972. Ida moved to Neepawa in 1974. They raised a family of eight children: Marie Wilson (Bill Biener), Winnipeg; Louise Kuharski, Winnipeg; Edythe (Don) Harstine, Dewey, Arizona; William (Elizabeth) Sumner, Neepawa; Norma deBalinhard, Nelson, BC; Robert (Deanna) Sumner, Neepawa; Elviss (Constance) Sumner, Neepawa; Marcy (Bruce) Jackson, Saskatoon, SK. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; her sister Mildred (Walter) Yonda, Brandon; sister-in-law Marion Ishenberg, Neepawa and numerous nieces and nephews. Ida was an accomplished seamstress and made countless quilts, afghans and lace tablecloths which will be treasured by family for years to come. Ida was a member of the Gordon United Church, Neepawa United Church, Neepawa Hospital Aid and a lifetime member of the United Church Women. Ida also volunteered for several years delivering Meals On Wheels. Ida and John enjoyed several holiday trips in Canada, the United States and Europe. Following Johns death, Ida continued her interest in meeting new people and seeing new places as she visited Australia, New Zealand, China, Alaska, Europe and the United States. She was our Mom, grandmother, sister and best friend who cared and saw the good in everyone. Well miss you and the love you shared. Funeral services were held on Friday, March 19 at the Neepawa United Church with Rev. George Cargo officiating. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Neepawa Health Auxiliary Memorial Fund, in care of Royal Bank, Neepawa or a charity of your choice.
