SERGY WARENYTCH After a brief illness, Sergy Warenytch, aged 81, peacefully passed on March 16, 2004. Sergy was born June 22, 1922 in Kolki, Ukraine. After the Second World War, and brief residences in Germany and Belgium, Sergy and his wife Ann and only daughter Lesia, immigrated to Canada in 1951. They arrived in Halifax on the S.S. Nelly and travelled by train with their few little belongings to Winnipeg where he continued to reside until his passing. Sergy was employed primarily in the garment industry working his way up to sewing machine mechanic where he was sent for technical training to Chicago and Japan. His skill was in such demand that even up to a few years ago he would still be called out to fix machines. He had fond memories of his employment and any drive through the exchange district would often drum up stories of where he had worked. Sergy was involved in the Institute Prosvita and a member of Sts. Vladimir and Olga parish. He had a great love of swimming and mineral baths. He owned a cottage at Grand Beach where the family spent many summers enjoying the lake. He also had been known to drive to Saskatchewan yearly to take in mineral baths and relaxation. His wife Ann passed away in 1989 after over 40 years of marriage. They resided in West Kildonan for the better part of their marriage providing wonderful memories for all the family members. He leaves to mourn his second wife Vera, who provided great care in his final years; as well as his daughter Lesia; and grandchildren, Anthony (Lori), Nadia (Luis) and Johnny; as well as three great-grandchildren, Michael, Matteo and Andrea. Prayers will be sung at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. on Sunday, March 21 at 6:00 p.m. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 114 McGregor Ave. on Monday, March 22 at 10:00 a.m. Following the burial at Holy Family Cemetery, a full lunch reception will be held at the Institute Prosvita, Pritchard at Arlington. Special thanks to the staff at CancerCare Manitoba, and also to Dr. John Mayba. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
