DAN GAUK Peacefully in the early hours of March 17, 2004, our Dad and Gigi passed away surrounded by his family at Villa Youville in Ste. Anne, Manitoba, at the age of 98 years. Left to cherish his memory are daughters, Jean and husband John Zalitach of Winnipeg, Irene and husband Ed Dobush of McMunn, Manitoba, five loving granddaughters, Cyndi and Dr. Ed Pascoe, Diane Zalitach, Pat and Ken Shandroski, Wendy and Jack Groot, Chris Dobush, and seven precious great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Jessica Pascoe, Daniel, Andrew and Ally Shandroski, and Kevin and Michael Groot. He was predeceased by his wife Tekla in January, 1991. Dan was born on November 11, 1905 in the town of Budynin, povit Sokal, Lviv in the Ukraine. He came to Winnipeg in 1930. In 1935 he built his homestead in McMunn, Manitoba, where he lived until 2001 when he moved into the Villa Youville Personal Care Home. Dan was a member of the Seniors Club of Hadashville, the Ascension of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church, an Honorary member of Reynolds Community Club, and St. Marys Riverside Cemetery, where he was President for several years. He retired in 1970 from the Greater Winnipeg Water District after 30 years of service. Prayers will be said on Sunday, March 21 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 22 in the Ascension of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hadashville, Manitoba with Father Kowch and Deacon Knysh officiating. Interment will follow in St. Marys Riverside Cemetery, Prawda. Pallbearers will be grandsons Ed, Ken and Jack, great-grandsons Daniel, Andrew, Kevin. Honorary pallbearer is great-grandson Michael. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of ones choice. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Sister Irene, Lea Berard and the wonderful staff at Villa Youville for the care, love and friendship given to our Dad and Gigi.
