ELVA BERNICE NEWTON (CHRISTIE) -
Date of Passing: Mar 20, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELVA BERNICE NEWTON (CHRISTIE) 1922 - 2004 On March 20, 2004, we lost our dear mother, grandmother, friend, confidant and most avid supporter. Elva will always be remembered by her family and friends for her strength, courage and loving smile. When she smiled, her whole face lit up. Mom, we are gladdened by the fact that you are now at peace. Throughout life you faced many challenges and always met them head on. Now you can rest. Elva was born in Winnipeg and spent most of her adult life with her friends and family in St. Vital. Early on, Elva was left to raise two young children on her own, a task that she excelled at and took great pride in. Elva worked for many years with the Canola Council of Canada until her retirement in 1986. She was a hardworking, intelligent person whose love and generosity to her children and grandchildren was immeasurable. We are very grateful that you passed on your giving and caring traits to us (your children), and we in turn will pass them on to your grandchildren. We are all better people to have known you, Mom. Elva was predeceased by her husband John (Jack) and her sister Eva. She will be deeply missed by her children, Jamie (Marjorie), Carol-Lee (Bob) her grandchildren, Jackson, Ryleigh, Keland, Sarah, Colin; her brother Lorne (Freda) her many friends; and her favourite dog Jaz. The family would like to thank all the healthcare professionals who throughout the past ten years have helped her to live to enjoy her grandchildren. We would also like to thank all the groups and individuals that lent her their support. A memorial service will be held to honour Elva at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, March 25 at Garry Memorial, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Elvas memory to the Manitoba Lung Association.
