LOUIS FRANK LAMIRANDE May 17, 1915 - March 23, 2004 Peacefully, on Tuesday, March 23, 2004, Louis Lamirande passed away at Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 88 years. Prayers will be held on Friday, March 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Ambroise Roman Catholic Church to be followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the St. Ambroise Cemetery. He was predeceased by his parents, Xavier and Rose Lamirande; infant son Marcel; teenage daughter Martha; brothers, Leo, Emile, Donat; and sisters, Antoinette and Ezelda. Louis, best known as Papa, will be lovingly missed by his wife of 67 years, Agnes; son Raymond (Lillian) daughter Jeannette (Greg) six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister Mildred; and by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Papa was born in St. Ambroise, MB on May 17, 1915 where he spent 86 years of his life. He married Agnes Lavallee (Mama) on October 23, 1936 and together they raised their family. He served under the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders during the Second World War. He was captured at the Battle of Dieppe and held as a POW for 994 days. On a second attempt he was successful at escaping and joined the French underground until the war ended. Upon his return home Papa resumed his livelihood as a farmer and commercial fisherman. He also spent many years trapping, guiding and worked as Park Patrol at St. Ambroise Beach. He was the town Constable for St. Ambroise. Papa took pride in his immaculate yard and gardens. His yard was full of amazing ornaments that he had created over the years. His saskatoon picking was legendary as was the hiding places of those berry patches. Papa, we are going to miss your smile and that twinkle in your eye, we love you. To Papas second family, the compassionate and caring staff of T3 at Deer Lodge Centre, thank you. The pallbearers will be: Donald Lamirande, Vice Lamirande, Andrea Gaudry, Nick Lavallee, Andrew Lavallee and William Lavallee. Honorary pallbearers will be: Ida Lamirande, Mary Lamirande, Therese Lavallee, Edna Meilleur, Doreen Pickard, Aime Lavallee and Harry Lavallee.
