EVELYN LAURA WEBSTER Evelyn passed away March 19, 2004 at Menno Hospital, Abbotsford, BC at the age of 87 years, her family at her bedside. The family would like to thank the staff at Menno Hospital for the excellent care she received. Evelyn was born at Minitonas, MB on August 19, 1917 to Edward and Laura Webster. She attended school and spent her growing up years in the Swan River area. She married Arthur James Potter on November 19, 1937 at St. Andrews United Church at Swan River, MB. On December 1, 1938 a son, Gordon Arthur was born at 14 pounds to Evelyn and Arthur. Then in 1940 they moved to Brandon, MB and a daughter, Ilda Gladys was born at Brandon General Hospital on June 17, 1941. Then in Brandon, March 31, 1944 a son was born, Garry Murray. Evelyn raised her three children in Brandon. Evelyn worked at the Prince Edward Hotel as Head Housekeeper and also worked at Clements Drug Store. She belonged to the Army and Navy Service Club where she helped the ladies fundraising events and luncheons for many years. Evelyn loved country music and loved to play her harmonica, and also loved to dance. Evelyn also took great pride in her flowers, garden and house. She was small in stature but was a very independent pretty lady and led a very active life. She loved life and was loving, kind and true to her family and friends. She helped many a person down on their luck and never asked anything in return. Her philosophy of life was simple, that she should live her life with integrity, be strong and true and keep on going when times were tough. Evelyn left Brandon in October 1993 and moved to her daughters house at Abbotsford, BC. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Edward (1951) and Laura (1952) at Brandon; her first husband Arthur Potter (1967) at Mission, BC; a companion and friend Emile Neault (1996) Brandon; a grandson Jerry Edward Hildebrand (1989) Abbotsford; and a sister Mary McPhee of Dauphin, MB (1988). Evelyn is survived by two sons, Gordon (Winona) Potter of Langley, BC, Garry (Margaret) Potter of Whitehorse, YK; one daughter Ilda (Harold) Hildebrand of Abbotsford; an aunt Amy Farewell of Winnipeg, MB; six grandchildren, Dan Hildebrand, Debbie (John) McFarlane, Abbotsford, Richard Potter, Stephanie Potter, Langley, Colleen Potter, Darlene Potter, Whitehorse, YK; four great-grandchildren, David, Dustin, Austin, Spencer; and also nieces and nephews. Visitation was held on Wednesday, March 24 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at First Memorial Chapel, 27555 - 31 Ave., Aldergrove, BC. A graveside service will be held on March 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Hatzic Cemetery, Mission, BC, with Chaplain Beverley Bradford officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
