Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIAN CRAIG HENDERSON Peacefully, on Tuesday, March 23, 2004, Ian Craig Henderson passed away at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 80 years. Ian was born November 9, 1923 in Cairo, Egypt, the son of Air Vice Marshal Malcolm Henderson and Mrs. Elizabeth Henderson and brother to Lessels, Elizabeth (James Marsham) and David (Adrienne). Educated in England at Malvern College, Ian enjoyed a lengthy career as a surveyor in the mining and construction industries. His work took him to Nigeria in the early 1950s and to Canada in the late 1950s, when a posting to Manitoba led to Ian meeting the love of his life, Vivian (Hill), whom he married in 1958. Ian and Vivian resided in Britain for the next 30 years, where they were eager and gracious hosts who made many visitors from Canada feel right at home. Ian and Vivian were very pleased to return to live in Winnipeg upon his retirement in 1990. He was predeceased by his wife Vivian in 1997. He was also predeceased by his parents; two brothers; sister-in-law Vera Ford; and brother-in-law Raymond (Buster) Ford. Ian is survived by sister Elizabeth (Libby) Marsham in England; sister-in-law Adrienne Henderson in Australia; and nieces, Elizabeth and Diana in New Zealand and Japan. He will also be missed and lovingly remembered by his in-laws, Jack and Ruth Hill, Doug and Audrey Hill, Terry and Clarence Sveinson, and all of their children, his nieces and nephews, Ron (Judith), John (Diane), Janice, Kevin (Janice), Brett, Pam (Brad), John, Jeff (Darlene) and Glenn (David), along with his grand-niece and nephews. His very special friends, Berte ONeil and David and Michelle Johnson will also cherish Ians memory. Ian was a kind, gentle and caring person who loved spending time with his family and friends and was always quick to share a joke, a story and the irrepressible giggle that was so uniquely his. He enjoyed golf, a passion he inherited from his mother and shared with many of his relatives and close friends, and also had an abiding interest in military history and news from across the pond. Ian was an avid rugby fan throughout his life and was particularly thrilled to be able to see his beloved England triumph at the Rugby World Cup in 2003. The family wishes to thank the staff at Victoria General Hospital, WRHA Home Care and 3E at Riverview Health Centre for the exceptional care and compassion provided to Ian throughout his illness. He loved living and faced the end of his life with courage, dignity and a sense of fulfillment that inspired all who had the good fortune to spend time with him during his last few months. A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, April 7 at 1:00 p.m., Holy Trinity church, Donald at Graham.
