Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDORIS PANKIW After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Doris Pankiw passed away quietly with her daughter Kathy by her side at the Cowichan Regional Hospital in Duncan, BC on Monday, March 22, 2004. Born September 10, 1921 on the Semeniuk family homestead south of Tuffnell, SK, Doris was the fifth child and third daughter of Katrina and Kost Semeniuk. She was raised on the family farm and attended Rivington School. As a young woman, she and her sister Mary moved to Moose Jaw. Doris married Bill Pankiw in Moose Jaw in 1942. They moved to Winnipeg and lived on Barber Street and Ada Street in Brooklands and Alfred Avenue in the North End where they raised their family, Kathy born in 1944 and Linda born in 1948. Doris worked for Manitoba Hydro, St. Regis Hotel and the Winnipeg Inn as a cook. Her hobbies included crocheting and collecting figural Avon bottles. Doris was predeceased by her parents, Katrina in 1952 and Kost in 1974; her brothers, Nick in 1997 and George in 1978; her sister Annie Spunarsky in 1992; and her husband Bill in 1994. She leaves to mourn her daughters, Kathy Stagg of Duncan, BC and Linda Tooley of Winnipeg and their husbands, Fred Stagg and Reid Dickie; her sisters, Mary Panko of Saskatoon and Bella Baziniak; and her brother Steve Semeniuk, both of Winnipeg, many nieces, nephews and friends. Doris family and friends will always remember her busy hands, preparing delicious sumptuous meals, fashioning fanciful crocheted items out of thin air and imagination; her busy hands planting gardens and cutting tender vegetables, holding her babies, hugging her teenagers, always loving, always busy, making, helping. The hard work and the pleasure work are all done now. Her busy hands can rest. A memorial service for Doris will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 27 at Harrow United Church, 955 Mulvey Ave. at the corner of Harrow and Mulvey, Winnipeg. Reverend Teresa Moysey will officiate. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Doris name to Quagga Stray Cat Rescue, Box 552, Winnipeg, R3C 2J3 or to the charity of your choice.
