BETTY HUMPHREYS (nee AITKEN) Betty Helena Humphreys lost her battle with cancer Friday, March 26, 2004. Betty was born December 12, 1930 in Fife Lake, SK, the second youngest of five children, to John and Gertrude (Kendall) Aitken. They moved several times until finally ending up in Winnipeg in 1937. Betty grew up in Fort Rouge and graduated from Kelvin High School in 1949. Her first job at Goodyear Tire as a secretary was also her last. There she met David and they were married February 27, 1954. Bettys career was her home and family. She had her hobbies, sewing, reading, gardening and crossword puzzles. In her later years she liked to do the teahouse tour or go to the theatre with her best friend, Irene Little, or chat on the phone with her niece, Dianne Maharaj, or with her children and grandchildren. Betty was predeceased by her husband David in 1989, also a sister Marguerite and brother John. She is survived by her children, Bob (Linda) of Brandon, Bill (Bonnie) of Wilcox, SK, Cathy (Victor Mark) of Winnipeg, and Susan (Brad Thompson) of Abbotsford, BC, and their families including eight grandchildren, Sean, Megan, Alana, David, Kate, Jill, Ian and Amy; and by sisters, Greta and husband Roy Mitchell, also Ethel and husband Don Hyslop. Memorial service will take place on Tuesday, March 30 at 1:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Interment at St. James Anglican Cemetery (Portage and Tylehurst Street). In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Riverview Palliative Care Home, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 9Z9 where Betty was so well cared for in the final days of her life.
