Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUTH BRUCE Peacefully on January 20, 2004 at the St. Adolphe Nursing home Ruth Bruce, aged 93 years formerly of Ashern, MB. Ruth was born January 6, 1911 in Hans County, NS, moving to Winnipeg in 1920. In 1935 she married James Bruce. Ruth started her teaching career in 1932 and taught school at Tennyson, Marne, Nord, Camper, and Eddison. Ruth and Jim lived in the Tennyson area until 1942, the Nord district until 1957 before moving to Ashern. She was a canvasser for the Red Cross for many years. Ruth and Jim played at many school dances. She played guitar, piano, and organ. She was active in the United Church for many years. She loved to garden and especially loved her grandchildren. She leaves to mourn four sons, Dick (Linda) of Portage La Prairie, Allan (Elaine) of Ashern, David (Carol) of Headingley, and Stanley of Ashern; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, also four nieces and their families. She was predeceased by her husband James on April 3, 1980. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 3 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ashern United Church with Melanie Kauppila officiating. Interment to follow at the Eriksdale Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, in care of Julie Bergner, Box 721, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0, "to be used in the Palliative Care Unit".
