Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryAMELIA (MILLIE) BLANEY Mom was born Amelia (Millie) Wardrop, October 3, 1915 in Whitemouth, MB, grew up in the area and remained there until her passing, on March 27, 2004. Mom led a wide and varied life. She attended school in Whitemouth and there she made some lifelong friends, one of her closest being Emma Hill. Her first real adventure in life was her first marriage to Art Pommer and it was with Art that Mom developed her love of the outdoors. Every fall for over 10 years they packed their canoe with enough provision to last them until spring, and paddled north of Lac du Bonnet to attend their trap line at Bee Lake. This life in the bush ended when Art died tragically, while working on the addition of the Seven Sisters Generating Station. On October 22, 1949, Mom married Al Blaney, our dad, and as she had told us, this is when "her life began". Moms priority was her family, her husband and her three sons. As we grew up, she was always there for us and all our friends. The fridge was always stocked with homemade treats, Mom was the best cook and baker ever. After we had grown and moved from home, Mom looked for other ways to fill her time. At age 60, she obtained her drivers licence, bought her first car and joined the work force. Working for the Parks Branch in Seven Sisters and Nutimik Lake brought her once again closer to the outdoors. Upon her retirement, she found her next adventure was with her five grandchildren. They were and continue to be the apple of her eye. Homemade cookies were much a staple in their lives as well. Her love of nature still strong, Mom walked miles a day, took monthly excursions into the whiteshell Park and Bird Lake to celebrate her girlfriends birthdays. She took her trip to Alaska, which was a lifelong dream. Mom went deer hunting with Emma Henschell and worked a winter trap line. Mom was full of life. She was without a doubt the neatest and greatest mom on earth and was one of the most caring people to ever walk this planet. Predeceased by Dad in October 2002, Mom will be greatly missed by many, especially her family, Patrick and Irene, Jim and his boys, Jordan and Clayton, Terry and Sherrie and their kids, Jennifer, Jill and Ryan. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 31, 2:00 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Whitemouth with Pastor Don Reimer officiating. A special thanks to all the staff at the Whitemouth Health Centre for the loving care you have given Mom in the last few years. A better "home" could not be had. We are truly fortunate to have such a facility and such caring people in our little town. A super, special thanks to the group of volunteers that make up the Palliative Support Group. Words cannot express what you meant to us and what you did for us and Mom. It was greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Whitemouth District Health Centre or the Alzheimers Society.
