DAVID GEORGE PLEWS May 29, 1946 - March 27, 2004 Suddenly on March 27, David Plews passed away at his home at the age of 57. He was predeceased by his father George Plews; and his dear friend Alex Vennard of Brandon, MB. David is survived by his loving wife Lia (Wilson) one daughter Stacey (Russ) McFall with grandchildren Flynn and Haley; his mother, Nana; sister Jean (Morris) Walters; brother Don (Ardell) Plews; nephews, Mike (Michelle) Walters and Nick (Misty) Walters with Ireland; niece Shaleen (Blair) Despins; sister-in-law Jennifer (Barry) Blackburn with James and Lauren; and mother-in-law Emily Wilson. He will also be remembered by Theresa (Dave) Pearson, extended family and many friends, especially Brian Sheridan, Tom Yamashita and Errol Taggart. David was born in Redcar, England on May 29, 1946. He came to Canada with his parents as a young boy and grew up in Brandon, MB before moving to Winnipeg. The environment was always very important to David and he devoted his whole life to learning about it and then preserving it. He worked for the Government of Manitoba for over twenty years, first in the Department of Agriculture and then later with Conservation as a pesticide specialist. For a number of years he was a member of Conservations Emergency Response Team and most recently the West Nile Task Force. All who knew David will remember him for his kind and giving nature. He had just recently received his 100+ donations plaque from Canadian Blood Services; just one of the many ways he found to give of himself. A supportive and caring friend, he was always ready to listen and could be relied upon to offer a helping hand for whatever needed doing. Dependable and trustworthy, David left a lasting impression with everyone he met. "Grey Grampa" loved his family dearly, especially his daughter and her two young grandchildren. They will remember fondly the many card games and gatherings filled with laughter and good-natured teasing. David could always get people laughing. His sense of humour was one of his most beloved attributes and it will be sorely missed. He loved the outdoors and spent many happy hours on nature walks studying birds, trees, insects and all life around him. Nature was his passion, his life and his dedication. David was always active; playing squash, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, canoeing, hiking, trainwatching, baseball and cycling. Best beloved, there is a hole in our hearts now that even time cannot fill. Memorial service will be held on Friday, April 2, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. with reception to follow. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fort Whyte Centre, 1961 McCreary Rd., Winnipeg, MB R3P 2K9. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca
