Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBARBARA LORRAINE JEFFERSON Barbara Lorraine Jefferson, aged 49, died at home in Vancouver on Monday, March 29, 2004 with her family by her side. Barbara is lovingly remembered by her parents, Dick and Sophie Jefferson of Winnipeg; her longtime friend, companion and partner, Eva-Marie (Brandy) Buchner; her brother Eric; aunts and uncles, Bryan and Chris, Judy and Terry Miller, Tom and Lexx; and her cousins whom she numbered in the half-dozen. She is loved and will be missed by Brandys family, Margaret, Theresa (Ted) and Cyndi (Stephen) and by her much loved kitties, Louis and Didi. Barbara was born and raised in Winnipeg. She graduated from the University of Winnipeg in English and Anthropology and from BCIT in Computer Technology. She was a lifelong learner and actively encouraged the same in others. Barbara was a woman of many talents and skills honed by her travels and experiences. She enjoyed life and the adventures it brought, whether it was haggling with merchants in Morocco or riding her motorcycle to Tofino, BC or Gimli, MB. Barbara climbed mountains in Nepal and glaciers in Patagonia. She travelled Canada from Dawson City to Pagnirtung to Halifax to Tofino for both work and fun. She worked on a kibbutz in Israel, a mushroom farm in Greece and in the City in London. Barbara was an accomplished photographer whose pictures of people and places around the world won recognition. Barbara always found and drew out the best of her subjects. She loved her home and her neighbourhood of Commercial Drive. She loved movies, lattes, newspapers and most of all, discussions, any topic was game. Her wide-ranging experiences and knowledge gave her an amazing amount of expertise and information at her fingertips! Stories and experiences came alive for everyone listening when Barbara talked. Barbara loved her work as Manager, Information and Technology, Western Canada Service Centre. She was especially happy working with the people at Parks and Heritage Canada who shared her interest in anthropology and in keeping the Parks available to the public. She had a great respect for the service centre management team and her informatics colleagues. She was proud to be part of the Public Service. Barbara and Brandy would like to thank everyone who sent flowers, cards, notes, food and called over the last months for your support and caring. We send many thanks to our friends and families. Barbara and the family would also like to thank Sylvia, our care giver; the team at the North Community Health Office, especially Pam and Cheri; Dr. David Thomson, Drs. Bryce and Weir and Jennifer at the BC Cancer Agency. A celebration of life will be held at the Marriott Residence Inn, 1234 Hornby St., Vancouver, Saturday, April 3 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.. A gathering will be held in Winnipeg at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to The Tiger Foundation, Suite 2007, 1177 West Hastings, Vancouver, BC V6E 2K3 or to Doctors without Borders, Suite 402, 720 Spadina Ave., Toronto, ON M5S 2T9 or to the animal care service of your choice.

So sorry to hear about Barbara. She was such a dynamo. She was easily the nicest person I ever worked with and had a way of making me want to improve myself. She had a terrific sense of humour and an infectious smile. She was interested in everything and sought answers to questions that I hadn't even imagined. I thought of her often but I wish I had looked her up sooner... - Posted by: Anita Kosovic (Co-worker at Canadian Coast Guard) on: Jul 22, 2012
