ERIC EMIL RUECKERT Eric Rueckert, beloved husband of Mary, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 1, 2004 at Red River Place personal care home at the age of 86, with his loving wife and family at his side. Eric was born in Poland in 1917 and immigrated to Canada with his wife and two young children in 1952. He came to this country to give his family a better life, and also had two more sons born in Canada. Eric was predeceased by his parents and his six brothers and three sisters and also by his stepson Reinhard Henkel. He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife of 56 years Mary; son Ron (Debbie) son Danny; daughter Erika Berkers (Hank) ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. As Husband, Dad, Opa and friend, he will be sadly missed by all. Eric worked for many years at Filtersoft Ltd. and Stormtite Windows, both in Winnipeg, and retired at the age of 67. He was well respected by his co-workers and continued some of those friendships to this day. Eric lived for his family and was both a dedicated father and husband, and a real pillar to his many friends. He was jack of all trades and you could often see him getting out of his car with tool box in hand, ready to help anyone in need. He suffered in silence with his God at his side, never complaining, always making everyone laugh and keeping his spirits up. It was his unwavering faith that sustained him and he knew that he would be with his Lord soon, in a much better place. A memorial service will take place at the Selkirk Community Church, Saturday, April 10, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Don Petker officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date. Thanks to Dr. Lindenschmidt, and the staff at Red River Place for their constant care and compassion in caring for Eric and the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Selkirk Community Church, 210 Main St., Selkirk, MB R1A 1R8. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
