Jim was born in Winnipeg and received his education at Miles Macdonnell Collegiate, United College, Winnipeg and Princeton University, New Jersey. He enjoyed his years as a lecturer in political studies at Waterloo and Brock University in Ontario. Jim dealt with his physical adversities with courage and without complaint. In his last six years, he accepted life as an amputee and as a member of Amp-Reach, was committed to his role as a volunteer counsellor for new amputees. Jim will be remembered by family and friends for his wit and intelligent conversation. Jim appreciated his friends in Toronto and Winnipeg and the support they gave. Thanks go to Dr. Victor Cellarius, palliative care, Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto and to the nurses, home care and hospice personnel who allowed him to die with dignity in his final struggle with cancer. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and interment will be at a later date in Winnipeg. If friends so desire, a donation in his name may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Cancer Society.
