WILLIAM (BILL) VAN DORP Peacefully on Friday, April 2, 2004, Bill passed away at Seven Oaks General Hospital with his family at his side. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Eva (nee Dykstra) his five children, Dorothy (Gary) Lissenberg of Winnipeg, Jean (Fred) Vette of The Netherlands, John (Agnes) Van Dorp of Winnipeg, Linda (Joe) Grootenboer of Brampton, ON, and Henry (Marilyn) Van Dorp of Dugald. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister Nellie De Jong (Emo, ON) in-laws, Cor and Rose Dykstra, Jim and Dorothy Dykstra, Jean Jaeger; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Jan (1944) and Jannetje (nee Klok) (1964) van Dorp; his brothers, Hendrick van Dorp (1918), Abram Jan van Dorp (1929), Arthur van Dorp (2003) and his sisters, Henrietta Douma (1968), Jenny Boon (1970), Klazina van Dorp (2002). Bill was born on March 25, 1915 in Schipluiden, The Netherlands. He came to Canada at the age of five. The family moved to Blackdale, MB in 1928. Bill began farming with his dad and continued farming his whole life in Blackdale. Bill married Eva on November 21, 1940. Bill was a very loving husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa. He was a quiet, soft spoken man, he loved and disciplined with a gentle hand, very seldom did he raise his voice. Bill could fix anything and if he couldnt fix it, he simply redesigned it so it was fixed. In his "retirement years" he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, puzzles and reading. Bill was a faithful member of the Covenant Christian Reformed Church. The family wishes to thank the staff at Seven Oaks General Hospital for their compassionate care during this difficult time. Also, thanks to Home Care staff (Ken, Jose, and Halina) for your care and support while Bill was at home. Visitation will take place on Thursday, April 8 between 11:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. in Leatherdale Gardiner, 1858 Portage Ave. with the burial service following at 12:30 p.m. in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. A celebration of Bills life will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Ave. Rest in Peace.
