ROBERT BOB STEWART Peacefully on Monday, April 5, 2004, Robert Stewart died at Oakview Place, his residence since November 2000. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lucille Stewart; twin sons, who died in infancy; his parents, William James Stewart and Ellen Theresa Stewart; his brother, William Stewart; and sister-in-law Jerry. Left to lovingly remember him are dear friends, Jean and David Pyatt and their children, Jason and Scott, all of England; sisters-in-law, Vera Davies, Edythe Crane and Beryl Pauls of Alberta and Wilma Slater of British Columbia; as well as many nephews and nieces especially nieces, Brenda Stewart and Mary Ellen Thornton, who considered Bob and his wife to be second parents following the death of their own parents in 1979; and great-niece Brianne Johnson. Bob was educated in Lemoxtown Public School in Sterlingshire, Scotland and at age 14 moved to Glasgow. He attended night school to study and Maths and English, later working in a drawing office and at Clydebank Shipyards. In 1926 he and his family immigrated to Alberta where he farmed until 1941. Bob then joined the R.C.A.F. as a wireless instructor and was stationed in Calgary, Montreal, Boundry Bay, BC, and Winnipeg until the end of the war. Bob married the love of his life, Lucille, in 1939 and after the war they settled in Winnipeg. He ran a small electrical business and later became a very successful car salesman until retirement. Bob had a zest for life and he and Lucille enjoyed their travels to England, Ontario, Alberta and Hawaii. As an avid amateur photographer Bob was able to capture happy memories in hotographs which he enjoyed developing himself. An accomplished poet and wonderful storyteller, Bob made friends easily and cherished his family and friends. This is best expressed in his own words: I need no tombstone oer my head, To mark where I am laid; No music other than the notes Which by the wind are played. I only ask that oer my grave When life is at an end Shall fall the moisture of a tear, The tear drop of a friend. I ask no more from life than this; That when I die I be Beloved by those I leave behind And that their thoughts of me Be not that I was rich or poor, With gold or goods in store, But that they loved me as a friend And love my memory more. When at last I hear the Call My fervent hope shall be; That He who marks the sparrows fall, Shall do no less for me. A memorial service to celebrate his life will take place on Friday, April 16 at 2:30 p.m. at Oakview Place, 2395 Ness Ave., Winnipeg. Interment will take place next to his beloved wife Lucille at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Bob would wish special thanks to be expressed to the staff of Oakview Place who provided excellent care to him and his wife.
