JESSIE (JUSTINA) GIESBRECHT (nee DYCK) Jessie (Justina) Giesbrecht (nee Dyck) died peacefully in her sleep on April 6, 2004. Her final illness was mercifully brief. Oma will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Karin Giesbrecht and granddaughter Sarah Hargreaves; her son Randy Giesbrecht, daughter-in-law Biff Cohoe and grandson Amos Giesbrecht and by her son Rob Giesbrecht, daughter-in-law Shannon MacFarlane and grandchildren, Rebecca, Kate, Ian, Beth and Lexi Giesbrecht. Jessie was predeceased by her beloved husband Frank in 1990. Oma was born on October 20, 1922 in Ladekopp Molotschna Colony, Russia, the youngest child of Peter J. Dyck and Susie (Lietz) Dyck. The family came to Canada in 1924 and eventually settled in Starbuck. After graduating from Mennonite Collegiate Institute in Gretna and attending Normal School in Winnipeg, Jessie taught school in several communities. It was at one of these schools that Jessie met Frank, the principal. Several years later they married and started their family. Oma was devoted to her family and to her home. Her cooking and baking were renowned and gave her and her family great pleasure right to the end. The last pan of Zwieback came out of the oven less than two weeks ago. Aunt Jessie will be missed by several sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews and their families. The memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 8 at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9 or CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc., 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
