Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVIOLET RASHLEIGH SAKOWSKI It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Violet Rashleigh Sakowski on April 6, 2004 at the Victoria General Hospital. She was devoted wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law and friend and will be deeply missed. Remaining to cherish her memory and celebrate her life are her sons, Bob (Sara), Roger ("Charlie") her granddaughters, Zena (Rob), Nicole (Randy) and former daughter-in-law Lois; her lifelong friend Helen in Florida; and the people she embraced in her life in Winnipeg especially John. Born in New Jersey on January 3, 1920, Mom struggled with deafness for 30 years after a bout of Rheumatic Fever as a child. She was one of two children the other being her devoted brother Arthur who predeceased her. She always had a creative gift and with a desire to formalize her interest went to Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts in New Jersey where she met the love of her life, her husband Bob who predeceased her March 10, 1998 in Harlingen, TX after spending more than 56 years together. Upon graduation, she worked as a very successful technical illustrator for various companies in New Jersey - one of them being Bel Labs where she had top clearance for government security projects being the Nike Missile Program. After raising their two boys dad and mom in their 50s retired, bought a trailer and travelled the United States and Canada meeting new friends and experiencing different cultures. They then settled in Harlingen for 23 years where she designed their home and with Dad set up an advertising agency, living a comfortable and full life. A very beautiful and unusual woman her talents far exceeded her petite stature. She was an artist, gardener, photographer, chess player, amazing seamstress, embroiderer, crocheter and potter. Mom had a fierce love of beauty, family and animals, especially her dog Pepper - remaining always positive till her last day! Our family wishes to express our appreciation to the staff at the Victoria General Hospital, especially the exceptional staff in the I.C.U. for their dedication expertise and compassion to Mom and our family during this very difficult time and to the staff on the 5th floor for their care and compassion as well. Also on the Rehabilitation Unit for months of care and to the Miseracordia Hospital Interim Care and the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg on Hugo - 2nd Floor (her home from January 23, 2004) all of whom helped Mom travel through her journey of illness to death from May 2003 to the present. Following cremation a celebration of Violets life will take place on Saturday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Lukes Anglican Church, 130 Nassau St. North, with The Rev. Robert Brownlie officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Violets memory to the Safe Haven - Pet Rescue, in care of Hilda Hiebert, in care of Box 84, RR#2, St. Anne, MB R5H 0R2.
