MARGARET CALDERWOOD SWAN It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our wonderful mother, Margaret Calderwood Swan (nee Getty), who passed away peacefully on April 6, 2004 with her family by her side. She was 80 years old (but if you asked her she would tell you she was 39). Cremation has taken place as well as her burial and a private family service was held. Mom was born in Scotland on November 29, 1923. She came to Canada in 1957 with the first five of her eight children. She was predeceased by her mother, father, four brothers and two sisters. She leaves to mourn her passing, her children, Ian, Margaret, Charles (Judy), Elizabeth (Alan), Alex, Ann (Larry), Andrew, Robert (Ronda). Her grandchildren, Cheryl, Clinton (Marina), Charlene (Geoff), Cameron (Cari), Michael (Sylvia), Heather (Joe), Angela (Aaron), Stephen, David (Maria), James, Chelsea, Wade, Johnette. Her great-grandchildren, Carly, Jacob, Jenna, Nicole, Noah, Jessie, Antonio, Julian. Also to mourn her passing are Peter (father of Michael), Dorothy (mother of Heather and Angela). Moms life was her family. The love she passed on to us, we in turn passed on to our children and grandchildren. She taught us all that there is nothing in this life more important than your family. So many people have been blessed by her kindness. If you went to visit her, you left her house with a smile, an afghan or a sweater that she knitted, which was her favourite past time. She always paid a kindness with a kindness. She always believed that it is better to give than to receive. The one thing that she received the most was the love and respect from her family and friends. When she became sick, she always said, "it could be worse". I am so lucky to have lived as long as I have and I have my wonderful family to thank for that. No mothers love was greater than the love our mother showed for her family. Mom had a wonderful sense of humour and her jokes were always enjoyed, by everyone who heard them. During her stay in the hospital, the nurses and doctors would congregate in her room at night to hear her latest jokes. Her chart read "The joke lady". If you asked her how she was doing, she would tell you she was doing everybody. The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff on 3-B at St. Boniface Hospital for the compassionate care and love they showed our mom during her last days. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, a donation can be made to the Salvation Army or CancerCare. Mom you are the "Greatest", we love you beyond words and we will miss you terribly. Sleep now for you are at peace and you are in a far better place. - Your loving family Arrangements entrusted to: VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIUM 220 Hespeler Ave. at Henderson Hwy. 668-3151
