Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFLORENCE ADA FERGUSON (MACLEAN) On Wednesday, April 7, 2004, Florence Ada Ferguson (MacLean), 94 years old, passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital. After 62 years of marriage her husband, Ernest Ferguson, predeceased her in 1999. She leaves to mourn her passing Carol Ferguson, her beloved daughter and only child; her two cherished granddaughters, Carolyn Loewen and Susan Munroe-Murphy (David) her adored great-granddaughters, MacKenzie and Madison Loewen, and Bennett, Chapin and Schaeffer Murphy; sister Margaret Williams (Dauphin) sister-in-law Kay Firman (Thunder Bay) sister-in-law Sheila Drake (Vancouver), as well as numerous nieces and nephews across Canada. Florence was born on July 11, 1909 in Long Creek, PEI to Frank John MacLean and Ella Jean Stevenson. In 1919, following her fathers return from the First World War the family moved west and settled in Dauphin, MB. Florence moved to Kenora, ON in 1935 and it was there that she met and married Ernest (Fergie) Ferguson. During the 32 years that they lived in Kenora, she was Librarian in the Kenora Public Library for many fulfilling years. Subsequently, she and her husband moved to Winnipeg in 1967 where she became employed at the University of Manitoba as the Supervisor of the Engineering Library and retired from this position in 1979. Always an avid reader, Florence maintained that she was fortunate in her work as her vocation was also her avocation. In order to see for herself some of the places that she had read about all her life, Florence travelled to Scotland, England, Hawaii, Mexico, Florida, California, the Southern States, as well as Eastern/Western Canada and the Maritimes. She had a deep passion for horses, the countryside, sports, dancing, music (especially the symphony orchestra), art and poetry. Mom/Nana loved to cook and would always provide one of her delicious and delectable pies for family gatherings. No one who was privy to taste her outstanding Yorkshire puddings and roast beef dinners would ever forget the culinary experience. She regularly attended the United Church of Canada throughout her adult life and found the spiritual guidance to bring her endless peace and comfort. Most of all, Mom/Nana deeply loved her immediate and extended family/families and in return was adored and loved by them. She was always there to provide a helping hand, a listening and interested ear, and solid counsel. Her strong interest in the familys Scottish roots lead her down the genealogy path for a number of years. Mom/Nana will be SO missed by SO many. Thanks are extended to the folks at the Villa Cabrinis residence who helped make Florences last years pleasurable, to the numerous Home Care Workers who provided such care and laughter, to the St. Boniface Hospital Cardiology Unit for their kindness, and to the Heart Cath Unit Team for their outstanding efforts on her behalf followed by immeasurable support/caring extended to family members. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Salvation Army. In the truest sense, a celebration of her long life will be held on Wednesday, April 14 at Neil Bardal, 984 Portage Ave. (Aubrey Street entrance), Winnipeg, at 2:00 p.m.. "Is death the last sleep?
