NICHOLAS WAWRYK Peacefully, after a short illness, Nicholas Wawryk, aged 91 years, of Selkirk, MB, passed away at the Grace Hospital on April 7, 2004. Nick was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy, a daughter Muriel, sons-in-law, Dennis and Raymond; his parents, Michael and Anna; brothers, John, Peter, Walter, and Wasyl (in infancy) and a sister Marion. He leaves surviving his children, Ethyl, Paul (Judy), Charlie, Ken, Bev (Bob) and Doreen (Wayne) 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul (Elsie) and Steve; sister Josephine (Frank) and sisters-in-law, Bernice and Thelma; and many nieces and nephews. Nick had lived and farmed at Netley, MB for many years before retiring to Selkirk. He enlisted with the Canadian Armed Forces in October of 1939 and had served overseas in Africa, Italy and Germany, returning home in 1945. Besides farming, he also worked at the Manitoba Rolling Mills for 15 years. Nick has been a resident of the Deer Lodge Centre for the past year. Nick was an active and lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 42, Selkirk. He loved the outdoors and in his earlier years enjoyed hunting. He also like to travel but his main joy was his family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday (today) at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Members of the Legion will form a Guard of Honour and hold Legion Rites. Interment will follow at a later date at St. Georges Cemetery, Wakefield. The family would like to thank the staff on Tower 3 and 5 at Deer Lodge Centre, and also a special thanks to granddaughter Carla McCarville and staff at Grace Hospital for their special care during Dads brief illness there. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, R3C 0S6 or the Deer Lodge Centre, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, R3J 0L3.
