THOMSON August 11, 1931 - April 7, 2004 With heavy hearts, the family of Ernie Thomson announces his passing at the Riverview Palliative Care Unit. He faced a lengthy battle with both cancer and emphysema and left this earthly place surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his parents, Harriet and Donald; sister Kae; brother Jack and his first wife Eunice. Ernie leaves to mourn, his loving wife and best friend Anne; his children of Winnipeg, Wes, Jane, Lynn (Dave), Roberta (Ross), Deborah and Ruth (Dan) of Kelowna, BC; grandchildren, Kyle, Kari, Wayne, Justin, Caroline, Shauna, Angie, Lee and Beckie; stepchildren, Roanne of Winnipeg, Brad (Kim) of Calgary; stepgrand-children, Cynthia, Leah, and Logan Ernie grew up in the West End of Winnipeg. As an adult he served some time with the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders (Reserve) and was later employed by Environment Canada, serving almost three years in the weather stations Isachsen and Eureka in the High Arctic. These postings were among the most interesting and challenging he had ever undertaken. Ernie was then employed by Transport Canada, where he served as the Supervisor of Airfield Maintenance at Winnipeg International Airport. He was later transferred to Pearson International Airport in Toronto in the capacity of Superintendent of Airfield Maintenance, returning to Winnipeg in 1987. He held the position of Trainer/Examiner, travelling to all airports within the central region until retiring in 1990. Ernie enjoyed golf, travel, his computer, gardening and especially working alongside his beloved Anne. They enjoyed travelling to Costa Rica, Mexico, California, Arizona, Texas and western Canada His wife Anne has been his best friend, his mentor, his inspiration and his pillar of strength. They were true soul mates. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the excellent staff of 3E at Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care Unit. Your support eased this traumatic journey for both Ernie and his family. At Ernies request, cremation has taken place and no public service will be held.
