CAPTAIN MARVIN NORDMAN (RETIRED) At the age of 79 with his family by his side, Marv died peacefully at the Gimli Community Health Centre on Sunday, April 11, 2004. Marv was born in Cypress River on August 8, 1924 and was the youngest son of Chris and Jean Nordman. He was predeceased by his parents; sister Iris; brothers, Edwin, Ruric and Ivan. Marv married his beloved wife Helene in July 1944 and they were married 53 years prior to her death in 1997. Marv is lovingly remembered by his three children and eight grandchildren, son Curtis (Laura Goossen) daughters, Cara Tax (Ted) and Andrea Chow (Roger) as well as grandchildren, Trevor, Meghan (Hogan), Hannah, David, Jaimie, Dana, Adam and Tyler. He was looking forward to the birth of his first great-grandchild. Marv is also survived by his companion Jean French. Jean and Marv were both widowed and considered themselves lucky to have found someone special to share their lives with a second time. Marv will be fondly remembered by Jeans family. Marv spent a lifetime in public service through his employment and his volunteer work. Marv was proud to be a career military pilot serving in the RCAF for 23 years. He went on to have a successful career with the Manitoba Government Department of Public Works in several capacities including Deputy Minister. He was an active member of the Gimli Legion and served in various volunteer positions over the years and over the last few years enjoyed organizing the Gimli Canada Day Parade. A celebration of his life will be held at the Gimli Legion Branch No. 182 at 146-6th St. at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Healing Garden at the Gimli Community Health Centre, Box 250, Gimli, MB R0C 1B0 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Cremation has taken place. Special thanks to Dr. Wiesenthal and the nurses at the Gimli Hospital. Their care and compassion helped Marv through his final days with dignity. The family would like to thank all the staff who helped support them through this difficult time. Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli, in care of arrangements.
