DAVID McNAIR WHITEHILL July 26, 1923 - April 11, 2004 On Easter morning, Sunday, April 11, 2004 our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, David Whitehill, passed away at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre, with his loving family at his side. David is survived by his wife of 56 years Doreen, son Ian, daughter-in-law Patty, and grandson Derek as well as his brother Peter (sister in law Lillian) and brother Jim. He was predeceased by his sister Margaret McClintock. David always resided in Winnipeg. He was born and raised in Elmwood, married and raised his family on Toronto Street, and retired to Garden City. His life evolved around his family, friends, and work. He retired from Bristol Aerospace (formally McDonald Bros. Aircraft) in 1986, after 46 years of devoted employment. He started working at McDonald Bros, Aircraft during The Second World War, where he applied his carpentry skills building planes. It also served as the meeting place of his wife Doreen, and the source of lifelong friends and acquaintances. He retired as superintendent of maintenance. He was a devoted husband and father. His home was his castle. He took great joy in fixing and maintaining it, and spending time hosting family and friends in it. He was always willing and able to lend a hand to family, friends and neighbours. As a father, he made it to all of his sons games, and was always an avid supporter that could be counted on to be cheering in the stands or on the sidelines. His time and vehicle was always available to help out any of the other kids that needed rides. As a supporter of the community he spent many years helping out at West End Community Club and served as president of the club for seven years in the 1970s. For the past ten years his home has been the Kildonan Personal Care Centre, on Henderson Highway. The familys sincere thanks go out to all the wonderful staff and caregivers that took care of David over the years. Special thanks to the angels that provided care and comfort to David and the family through the final days. Celebration of Davids life will be held on Thursday, April 15 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. Interment will follow at a later date in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Davids memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6, or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald St. Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. A HEART OF GOLD A heart of gold stopped beating Working hands at rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best. Leaves and flowers may wither The golden sun may set But the hearts that loved you dearly Are the ones that wont forget.
