IVANKA (JOANNE) CHERNICHKO (nee PAWLYSHYN) Peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 11, 2004, Ivanka passed away at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 78 years. Remaining to cherish her memory are her sons, Alex (Connie) and Len (Debbie) daughters, Sonia Klymenko (Michael) and Christina DAbramo (Bruno). Central to her life were her adored grandchildren, Billy, Adam, Mark, Diana, Katia, Xsenia, Natalia, Taisa and Yuri. She also leaves to mourn her sisters from New York, Olga Kobziar and Stefa Purij and their families, and also nephew Oleh Yasenytsky and family of Lviv, Ukraine. Ivanka was predeceased by her husband Alexander, three sisters, and two brothers who perished while serving in the Ukrainian Insurgent Army during the Second World War. Mom was born August 15, 1925, in Lviv, Ukraine. During the war she served as a nurse in a German Army hospital in Bratislava, Slovakia. In 1948 she immigrated to Canada and married dad in 1949 in Winnipeg, MB. While working as a cook for Childrens Home of Winnipeg for 27 years, she befriended many of the children, often inviting them to her famous Sunday dinners, which delighted friends and family for many years. Prayers will be held on Thursday, April 15 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 16 at 1:00 p.m. at the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 1175 Main St. with Rev. Fr. Alexander Harkavyi officiating. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. VICHNAYA PAMYAT CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
