Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN B. ANDRES John B. Andres passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday morning April 11, 2004 at Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, MB. He was born on September 23, 1912 in the Ukraine to John J. and Tina (Enns) Andres. They immigrated to Canada in 1929. He married Lydia Engbrecht in 1937. He is survived by his children, Adina (Doug) Robb, Erna (Dennis) Friesen, John (Edna), Ronald (Cheryl), Elsie (Larry) Godwin, Nellie (Guy) Marcoux, Karen Andres (Arne Anderson) two sisters, Nettie Toews and Tina Pankratz. He has 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Lydia in 1964, son-in-law Glenn Friesen in 1973 and stepson Alvin Reimer in 2002. He is survived by his wife Helen of 38 years and stepchildren, Amanda Cundal, Vic Reimer, Jake Reimer and Edna Joyce and their families. John began his adult life working in Altona and in 1942 moved to Steinbach to begin farming in Friedensfeld. The farm was a source of pride until the end as the farm is still operated by his son and grandsons. In his retirement years, John looked back fondly to the years spent as miller of the Mennonite Village Museum. He considered himself fortunate to be able to combine the work he enjoyed with his love of socializing. His ever present sense of humour and love of story telling was appreciated by all who had an opportunity to spend time with him. The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 15 at 11:00 a.m. at the Steinbach Mennonite Brethren Church, 340 2nd St., Steinbach with Rev. Abe Klassen officiating. Viewing will be held prior to the service. Internment at Heritage Cemetery. Special thanks from the family to Dr. Gordon Dyck and staff at Bethesda Hospital for the care and kindness given to our father.
