WALTER HANISHEWSKI With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Walter L. Hanishewski at St. Boniface General Hospital, Winnipeg on Monday, April 12, 2004 at the age of 76 years. He was predeceased by his loving wife Marjorie Isobel (nee Green) his parents, Joseph and Martha; stepbrothers, Edward and Mike; and stepsisters, Anne, Bertha and Francis. Dad is survived by his daughters, Katherine Dennis (Glenn) of Portage la Prairie, Debbie (Wayne) Kozak of Calgary, Patti (John) Tkachuk of Piney, MB, Susan Hanishewski of Hamiota, MB and Barbara Hanishewski of Minnedosa, MB; his grandchildren, Wayne, Courtenay, Stacey (Rob) and Andrew Dennis, Shannon and Krista Kozak, Jennifer and Brian Fosty, Kelly and Nicole Tiller, Emily and Willow Tkachuk ; stepgrandchildren, Jonathan and Sean Tkachuk; his sisters and brothers, Josie of Regina, John of Edmonton and Elsie of Ottawa; and many nieces and nephews. Dad was born May 17, 1927 in Buchanan, SK. At age 17 he left home to join the army. He started base training in Orillia, ON and went to several bases before he was discharged after 6 and a half years. Dad did different things before joining the air force in Regina. Dad met Mom in 1954 and they married November 11, 1955. Together they raised five girls and lived in different bases. Comox was their last place before retiring after 23 and a half years. Dad and Mom moved back to Manitoba where they bought a house near Clan William. In the early 1990s Dad and Mom travelled a lot. Their favourite spot was Hiking Trail - Edith Corel near Jasper, AB. After Moms passing Dad moved to Zhode, MB, then made a big change in his life. He bought a trailer and moved it to Village Paradise where he lived until his passing where he will be sadly missed. Dad will be remembered for his sense of humour and at times he could be stubborn. He loved to start an argument. Dads enjoyment was his family and he was a true "sport nut". The family would like to thank Dr. Wong and the staff of St. Boniface Hospital for their understanding and special care. We would like to extend sincere gratitude to all home care providers and to the people who lived near him, who visited or checked on him. Also to Alice a big thank you for doing his cleaning and odd jobs since we were not close by. Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 16 at St. Marys la Prairie Anglican Church at 1:30 p.m. with viewing prior to the service. The Rev. Norman Collier will lead the service. Interment is to follow at the family plot in Hillside Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Walters memory to Sunset Palliative Care, Inc., Box 92, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3A7 or CancerCare Manitoba, in care of St. Boniface General Hospital, 409 Tache, Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6. A tree will be planted and cared for in memory of Walter by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel who are entrusted with the arrangements. 857-4021 www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
