MELINDA ANN GLANTZ Melinda Ann Glantz passed away suddenly on March 21, 2004 at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal. She is survived in mourning by her mother Audrey Vail (John), father Lester Glantz (Esther), sister Diane Marr, brother David Glantz (Kayo Nakanishi-Glantz), nieces Candice and Jennifer Marr, members of her extended family in Japan and the U.S., and by a circle of wonderful friends. Melinda was born on April 24, 1958 in New York, and had her early education there and in Holliston, Mass. In 1973 she moved with her family to Winnipeg and graduated from Westwood Collegiate. She then took a B.Sc degree in Biology in 1981 at the University of Winnipeg. She twice visited relatives in Israel, once for a year, where she learned Hebrew. She took a Registered Nurse (Diploma) at Red River College and a Bachelor of Science (Nursing) from the Quebec Order of Nurses in 1988, and was a qualified R.N. in the U.S. Between 1982 and 1985 she did the pre-Masters year in Medical Physiology at the University of Manitoba, and two years toward the Master of Science (Applied) in Nursing at McGill University. In 1996 she obtained the post-graduate Diploma in Institutional Administration (Health) at Concordia University in Montreal. Melinda was highly respected for her services as a nurse in both hospital and medical research work in Montreal. She was an avid student of medical science. Melinda was an accomplished musician. At the age of seven, she studied piano at the Mannes College of Music in New York, and at age 14 was a scholarship student in flute at the New England Conservatory of Music. In Winnipeg, she mastered the flute and baroque recorders. In Montreal, she was a long-time member and mentor in Ensemble Vocal Katimavik, where she became fluent in French. This choir was one of her great joys. Melinda was active in synchronized swimming, first as a competitor, and later as a Level 3 Judge and Referee. She was also a talented amateur artist, in calligraphy, photography, needlework and watercolours. Her life was rewarding in medical science, in music, art and swimming, but most particularly in loving friends and family. In spite of persistent illness, she was a light to us all, an eternal optimist. A funeral service was held for Melinda in Montreal on March 24. A memorial service with reception following will be held in Winnipeg at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, at Temple Shalom, 1077 Grant Ave. Private interment will take place in Winnipeg. Donations in her memory may be made to Bnai Brith Canada, Halilah Chapter No. 1781, Montreal, or the Montreal Rehabilitation Institute, 6300 Darlington, Montreal, or a charity of your choice. Flowers are gratefully declined. Melinda is one of whom it is said; They shall grow not old, As we that are left grow old, Age shall not weary them, Nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, And in the morning, We will remember them.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I am so sad to only today (Jan 6, 2014) see Melinda's obituary. I am planning a trip to Vancouver the end of June and I remembered Melinda had moved there. Taking a chance I Googled her name and the oh so sad obituary came up. I remember her as a wonderful, kind and cheerful flutist and also remember her mother Audrey the entertainer. My sympathy to the family. I will be sure to let my fellow retired teachers know about the loss of a wonderful girl. - Posted by: Jerry Kazanjian (Holliston Music Teacher) on: Jan 06, 2014
