Date of Passing: Apr 02, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPEARL JEANETTE GRUSHKO On April 2, 2004, aged 93, Pearl died peacefully, with family at her side. She is predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Jack (Godel) Grushko; and sadly missed by her three daughters and three sons-in-law, Geraldine and Jack Sugarman, Rita Gunn and Greg Mason, Brenda Casey and Peter Casey; as well as six grandchildren, Jeff Sugarman (Nzula), Rochelle Winterton (Paul), Danny Gunn (Karen), Alana Gunn (Steven), Noah Casey and Jessica Casey; and five-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her three sisters, Beatrice Humby, Freda Leibl, Irene Karasick-McMurrich; and one brother Barry Rose. Born in Winnipeg, Pearl met Jack in 1930 and they married a few months later the same year. She worked for many years alongside her husband and also pursued several vocations and avocations independently. She volunteered and involved herself in a variety of hobbies through the years. She loved to cook and entertain, and was known to be a generous and gracious hostess. Always the favoured aunt, the wise sister, and the fun-loving friend, Pearl managed to make a celebration out of the mundane, especially if food was involved! However, her greatest passion was her role as a mother and grandmother. She was very proud of her children, and she revelled in their accomplishments. Pearl lived a very full and active life. Though her later years were marred by poor health, she was dynamic and strong well into her 80s. A graveside service officiated by Rabbi Allan Green was held on Sunday, April 4 at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Donations may be made in Pearls honour to a charity of choice. Mom, thank you for all your caring ways, and the foundation you laid for us.
