ADELE MEKELBURG (nee ROECHERT) It is with sadness we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, and great grandmother at the Riverview Healthcare Centre on Wednesday, April 14, 2004. She was pre-deceased by her husband Sam in 1994 and her daughter Gertrude in infancy. Adele will be dearly missed by her daughter Irma Recksiedler, and her two sons Arnold (Barbara) and Bruno (Mary) grandchildren Grant (Audrey), Blaine, Craig, Garth (Judy), Natalie (Gord), Vanessa (Harry), Melissa (Dwight), Theresa (Paul), and Brent (Samantha) as well as great-grandchildren Carmen, Kyle, Jeff, Jillian, and Mackenzie. she is also mourned by her brother Ernie (Ursula) Roechert. Adele was born January 18, 1915 in the Wolhynia district of Ukraine. She married Sam Mekelburg in 1933, and in 1948 they brought their family to Canada. She and Sam shared a deep love of music and it was not unusual to hear her singing as she worked in the kitchen or their garden. She took pleasure in family gatherings, the company of friends, involvement in her church community, and Friday meetings of the Seniors Club. Adele appreciated the many friends who dropped by while she was at Riverview. A celebration of Adeles life will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, 560 Arlington Street, at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 20th, with Pastor Gilbertson officiating. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery. Friends may also pay their last respects between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m., Monday, April 19 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue. The family wishes to thank the staff of Riverview Healthcare Centre for their excellent care. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Adeles memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg.
