Date of Passing: Apr 18, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALEXANDER REINHOLD MALKOSKE Peacefully on April 18, 2004 our loving dad, grandpa, brother and friend. Alex was born near Oldenburg, MB on April 26, 1921, to Gustav and Augusta Malkoske. He was the fifth child in a family of six and was affectionately known as "Red" to his close friends and family. Alex and Dorie were married on November 6, 1942 and enjoyed 51 wonderful years together. They farmed together in the Whitemouth area for 13 years where son Grant and daughter Karen were born. They moved to Rennie in 1955 where they owned the Rennie Grocery for nine years and daughter Susan was born. In 1964 they moved to Ashern where they owned the Ashern Motor Hotel until their retirement in 1986. They lived in Ashern for another seven years where their beautiful home in town and their cabin in Silver Bay were open to one and all. In June 1993, Alex and Dorie moved to Winnipeg to enjoy their retirement and lived there together until 1994. Alex is predeceased by his wife Dorie; his father Gustav; mother Augusta; sisters, Otillie and Alvina; brothers, George and Walter. He is survived by his son Grant with wife Arlene and grandchildren, Zachary, Christopher, Erin; daughter Karen Reece with husband Bryan and granddaughter Kristy-Dawn Bartlett (Kyle) daughter Susan Lutz with husband Perry and grandson Keegan; brother Eddie (Ruth) very special friend Betty; as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends that enriched life for Alex. Alex worked hard over the years, devoting his time and energy to family. In his early years of life, he helped to care for his widowed mother after his father died in 1929. Whether is was building the cottage at Silver Bay or taking the family for a vacation to Hawaii, Alex delighted in having the family together. Alex enjoyed travelling together with Dorie in their retirement and through the years they had many wonderful trips together. He loved to have the grandchildren around and take them for a ride on the lawn tractor or the back of the car. Alex was always ready to play a round of golf or a game of cards with family or friends. His barbecued steaks were the greatest, and when he said, "theyre ready!" all the family would quickly gather around the table and enjoy the feast. The family would like to thank the caring staff of the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit for the kindness and care they gave to our dad over the past weeks; also a special thank you to Dr. Jan Mulder for her wonderful care while Dad was at home and the dedicated W.R.H.A. staff; your kindness will never be forgotten. Funeral service will be held Thursday, April 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church, 1311 Dakota St., Winnipeg with Pastor Larry Ulrich officiating. Viewing will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit. Dad touched many with his love, kindness and generosity. We loved you dearly and will miss you always. Arnasons Funeral Home in Ashern in care of arrangements. 204-768-2072.
