ROBERT (BOB) DeGROOT September 9, 1925- April 19, 2004 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert DeGroot on April 19, 2004 at his home after a lengthy battle with heart disease. Bobs memory will be cherished by Dorothy, his wife and best friend of 58 years; his sons, Danny (Cindy), Ken (Trudy), Gerry (Susan) his daughters, Carol Nickerson, Linda Miller (Rick) and Debbie Zawadowski; seventeen grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren will treasure his memory always. Bob also leaves to mourn three brothers, Alex (Mary) Stan (Alma) and Charlie (Judy) his sister Corey Stelmack (Steve) sisters-in-law, Kaye Nickerson and Bernice Barron (Joe) many nieces, nephews and friends. Bob was predeceased by his father Robert; mother Mary; and step-mother Cora. Also by his brother George (Helen surviving), Norman (Edna) and his sister Ina Mann (George). Bob enjoyed his country home, caring for his yard and his beloved lilacs and birds. He loved the time in his wood working shop. There with great patience and care, he created the many birds, flowers and butterflies that his family will treasure forever. The family wishes to extend their great appreciation to the doctors and staff of the Ashern Hospital, Patsy and the staff of the Ashern Life Program and to their wonderful caregivers, Vi, Drenna and all the others who came into their home and gave unselfishly of their time. Always above and beyond the call of duty. Also a special thanks to Bill and Marie Ebbers. Each of you supported Bob and lifted our hearts in so many ways. Words cannot express our gratitude. A celebration of Bobs life will be held on Thursday, April 22 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ashern Legion Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Interment and a private family service will be held in Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, c/o Julie Bergner, Box 791, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0, for use in the Palliative Care Unit. arrangements by: ARNASON FUNERAL HOMES LTD.
