HARMEN FABER Suddenly on April 19, 2004 Harmen passed away at the age of 74. Harmen was predeceased by his parents and his son Greg. Harmen leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 47 years Frances; sons, Rodger (Regina), Kenneth (Tara), and Bruce; and daughter-in-law Janice; eight grandchildren, Lauren, Daniel, Rachel, Kevin, Krista, Isaac, Joel and Emily. He also leaves brothers, Jack (Eileen) and Saake; and sisters, Pietje and Epie. He will be sadly missed by all family and friends. Harmen was born in Friesland, Holland and left home as a young man to serve as aircraft mechanic with the Dutch Navy. He immigrated to Canada in 1956 and settled in Winnipeg. He worked as a millwright with Transport Canada and later with Agriculture Canada before retiring in 1991. Harmen was an active member of the Covenant Christian Reformed Church often serving in the church council. He was a founding member of Calvin Christian School and served the school in many capacities including chairman of the school board. He was also a regular blood donor. Dad was a skilled craftsman and could build or fix anything from houses to cars. He loved working with his hands and designing plans for projects, none were too big or too small. He proudly shared his expertise with his sons. Through his life and upon retirement Harmen travelled extensively throughout Canada, Africa and Europe, but his favourite destinations were the homes of his grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the 911 operator, the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service and the doctors and nurses at Concordia Hospital for their kindness and care. Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 23 at 2:00 p.m. at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Ave. with Rev. Bill Tuininga officiating. A private family interment will be held in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. Flowers gratefully declined, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or Calvin Christian School, 245 Sutton Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2G 0T1.
