JOHN EDWARD PLATT After a brave battle with cancer, John Platt, aged 66, of Ottawa, ON, died peacefully on April 18, 2004 with his brother Rick; nephew Nick and "family friends", Carole-Anne and Barry at his side. John was predeceased by his loving wife Doreen (nee Crewe) in October, 2002. He will be lovingly remembered by his family who reside in England, brother Rick Platt; sister Marnie Hardern, (John) nephews, Nick (Kseniya), Peter and Nigel (Beryl) and great nephew Super Ben. John will also fondly be remembered by Doreens niece Myrna Denbow (Jamie) and their daughter Lara, as well as loving friends, Carole-Anne and Barry, and their sons, Trevor and Tyler. John was born in Cheshire, England July 10, 1938, attended school there and immigrated to Canada in 1957 settling in Winnipeg. Shortly after arriving in Winnipeg, John found work with the Signal Maintenance Department of the Canadian National Railway. His involvement in union matters eventually led him to become full-time representative for the Brotherhood of Railway Signal Maintainers. His career as a union leader culminated in his being International Representative of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. John was greatly respected for all his negotiation skills on behalf of the union he represented, and will be well remembered by former colleagues and associates in Winnipeg and across Canada. Visitation will be at the Garden Chapel, Tubman Funeral Home (3440 Richmond Road, Ottawa) on Tuesday, April 20 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be at the chapel on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Johns wishes were that his final resting place be in Tarporley, Cheshire, England.
