ROSE SMOOK (GRANNY) On, Saturday, April 17, 2004 at the Thompson General, Mrs. Rose Smook, aged 82 years, beloved wife of the late Nichloas Smook. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 24 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Swami Devaprasad officiating. Interment of cremains of Rose and her late husband to follow in the Thompson Cemetery. Granny is survived by four sons, Nicholas (Colleen), Bob, Edward (Vivian), and Christopher (Janet) one sister Betty Templeman; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews as well as her precious Elmo. Granny will be missed by family and friends. Granny was predeceased by her husband Nicholas; sister Mary Zilke; and daughter-in-law Donna Smook. Rose was educated as a teacher, starting her career in Plum Coulee, then teaching in Sprague, Vita, and Thompson. Rose married Nicholas Smook in 1951 and after living in Sprague and Vita, moved to Thompson in 1967 where she continued teaching and working with her husband and sons to build a successful construction business. During their retirement, Granny and Papa traveled and spent time with their grandchildren. Granny will be remembered for teaching piano to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Music was Grannys great love and will live on as a result of her dedication. Granny could always be counted on to tutor a grandchild through a tough spot in school. Granny was notorious for her baked buns and chocolate chip cookies. On Grannys behalf, we would like thank the Nisichawayasihk Personal Care Home in Nelson House for their care and friendship to Granny in her last months, as well as Thank You to Dr. Rich, Dr. Duggal, and staff of the Thompson General Hospital for being there for Granny and all the Smook family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thompson Community Foundation at P.O. Box 1074 Thompson, MB R8N 1N9 or a charity of your choice.
