RUSSELL WILLIAM GARRETT On Tuesday, April 20, 2004, Russell William Garrett, passed away peacefully at Grace Hospice. Russell was born at Grace Hospital, on September 3, 1916, and lived all his life in Winnipeg. As a youth he was active in Scouting and carried these values to adulthood as Akela at St. Margarets and St. Aidans cub packs. Russell served overseas 1940 to 1945 with the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada, returning to marry Madeline on October 25, 1945. Employed by Canada Post, Russell was noted for his cheerful whistle while delivering the mail on his routes and was eagerly greeted each day by his faithful canine friends. Retiring after 33 years, Russell and Madeline spent many happy years at the cottage at Victoria Beach. Among his greatest pleasures were his family, their dogs, stamp collecting, model trains, and the beach. Many miles of happy trailering across Canada and the United States added to pleasure his retirement. Russell was a member of St. Margarets Anglican Church from his youth, and served on Vestry and as Peoples Warden. For the past 30 years he had been a member of St. Andrews Anglican Church, active in the Mens Club and the Over Sixty Club. During the summer season Russell and Madeline enjoyed services at St. Michaels Church at Victoria Beach. Russell is survived by his wife Madeline; daughters, Doreen (Bob) Pattie of Winnipeg, and Audrey (Gordon) Simpson of Miami, MB; grandchildren, Audrey and John Pattie, Carly (fiance Daniel Prejet), Linda (fiance David Orchard), and Bradley Simpson; nieces and nephews, Mark Strople, Tracy Christie, Diane Carter, David Garrett, and families. He was also survived by sisters-in-law, Doreen Strople and Dorothy Garrett. Russell was predeceased by his parents, John and Clarice Garrett; and brother Leslie.
