Date of Passing: Apr 20, 2004
Offer Condolences or MemoryLARRY HOLMES (HILTON LAWRENCE) With great sadness and with family and friends by his side, Larry passed away on April 20, 2004 at Concordia Hospital. Larry was born June 15, 1944 in Winnipeg and was raised and went to school in Sperling, MB. He was always athletic throughout his life, playing baseball, hockey, and curling which he especially enjoyed. Following his schooling, he went to work in Winnipeg for Co-Op Implements and Northern Electric, before joining the St. James Police Department January 1, 1972, where his brother Doug was already employed. Larry was a police officer for 32 years and retired from the Winnipeg Police Department in April 2003. He received many commendations and exemplary service medals for his many years of service with the Winnipeg Police Department. In September 1968, Larry married Gayle Ferguson and together raised three children, twins Lara, Julie and son Jason. He cherished the arrival of his twins and said they were the greatest thrill of his life. Larry was always a people person and always had something to say, a story to tell, or a word of advice. He remained very close to his old school friends, meeting regularly to share friendships, old times, conversations and laughter. People were an important part of his life, especially from "home" in Sperling. Much of his time also had been shared with friends Lenny, Kevin, and those at the Nairn No. 9 Legion. Larry will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 36 years Gayle; twin daughters, Lara and Julie; son Jason; his grandchildren, Trevor and Alesha; sisters, Olive (Mel) Ferris and their two sons, Michael and Kendall of Carmen, MB; Gail of Eriksdale, MB; sister-in-law Gladys of Teulon, MB; special cousin Betty (Sessions) Lannoo with whom he shared a lot of special times; lifetime friends, Kerry Young and Harold Archibald; and many other close friends and relatives. Larry was predeceased by his parents, Charlie in 1967 and Esther in 2000; his brother Doug in 1995; and all of his aunts, uncles and grandparents. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 24, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Private family interment will take place at later date. Thanks to the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic services and staff at ICU at Concordia Hospital. Love you always, miss you forever.
