JEAN DURACK
Born: Jun 23, 1921
Date of Passing: Apr 10, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN DURACK June 23, 1921 - April 20, 2004 Peacefully passed away April 20, 2004 at St. Boniface Hospital. She leaves to cherish her memory, her brother Joe Sokierka (Anne) of Minneapolis; two nieces, Karen (Tim) and Joanne; great-nephew Ryan (Sheila) and two great-nieces both with the name of Angela. Cori was a great nephew that held a place in Jeans heart that only he knew. She was predeceased by her parents John and Kathryn; sisters Helen Weedon and Adeline Ferguson. Jean dedicated her life to the labor movement in Manitoba. She fought tirelessly for the members of the Office and Professional Employees International Union. She had been a part of this organization for the past 50 years. She believed in the New Democratic Party of Manitoba and what they stood for. In her younger years she worked on their behalf. Jean enjoyed her winter holidays in Mexico with special friend, Marlies. As tough as Jean seemed, a small child could melt her heart, her family and friends were very dear to her and meant everything. Prayers will be held on Sunday, April 25 at 4:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 26 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Cropo Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery. Please join Jeans family for a celebration of her life Monday, April 26 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Union Centre, 275 Broadway. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, a donation in Jeans memory may be made to The Jean Durack Union Activism Education Fund, in care of OPEIU, Local 342, 403D - 275 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4M6, Canada.
