Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMATTHEW (MATT) PETER GOWRILUK March 28, 1921 - April 22, 2004 It is with profound sadness our family announces that on Thursday April 22, 2004 after a lengthy illness, Matt Gowriluk peacefully passed away at the Holy Family Nursing Home, with his wife at his side. Dad was predeceased by his parents, George and Mary; two brothers, Harvey and Alex; and son Michael. Dad leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 50 years Evelyn; son Albert (Jodi) daughter Andrea Richter (John) and four grandchildren, Ashlee, Caitlyn, Evan and Taylor; brothers, Bill, John, Sam, Vic, Art and Ray; and sister Violet. Dad was born and educated in Gonor, MB and later moved to Grand Beach to open his first business, Matts Grocery. In 1947, he returned to Winnipeg, where along with his brothers started Midland Fruit Company and served as its president until 1972, when it was sold due to his failing health. Dad served on the boards of the Holy Family Nursing Home and the Ukrainian Professional and Businessmens Club to name just a few. Dad was also a founding member of the Settlers Savings and Mortgage Corporation. Our family wishes to thank the staff of the Holy Family Nursing Home, 5A for the excellent care and kindness they gave dad over the years. Prayers will be said at Cropo Funeral Chapel 1442 Main St. on Sunday, April 25 at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Theresas Roman Catholic Church, 3597 Main St., West St. Paul on Monday, April 26 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Msgr. Louis McCloskey officiating with interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Matts memory to the Holy Family Nursing Home, 165 Aberdeen Ave., Winnipeg R2W 1T9 or to the Parkinson Society of Manitoba, 302-171 Donald St., Winnipeg R3C 1M4.
