KENNETH ROBERT MAIR May 21, 1940 - April 23, 2004 It is with great sadness the family of Ken Mair announces his unexpected passing. Ken leaves to mourn his wife and best friend Joan; his children, Jim (Mary Shannon), Scott, and Susan; step-children, Doug (Laureen) Forbes and Jodi (Jay) Shaw; siblings, Tom (Marion), Joan Monteith, Jim (Louise), and Laura Schnellert; grandchildren, Amanda, Raegen, Graeme, Gillian, and Erica; nieces and nephews, Karen, Andrea, Barb, Doug, Heather, Robin, and Michael; great-nieces and nephews; and many good friends, particularly Fern and Monty Newhart. Ken was predeceased by his Mother and Father, Jim and Mary Mair. Ken was born in Winnipeg and grew up in St. James. Ken always made family his priority and took great pride in his childrens accomplishments. Kens children describe him as understanding; he was indeed, the Best Dad anyone could hope for. Ken and Joan enjoyed extensive travel together. Ken loved watching his grandchildren grow and enjoyed many special moments, which the family will cherish. Some of his favourite pastimes were curling at Deer Lodge Curling Club and golfing at Sandy Hook Golf Course. He was proud of scoring two holes in one. Ken especially enjoyed gatherings at his cottage in Sandy Hook with family and friends where precious memories will forever be remembered. Ken was a member of Fort Garry Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry (33rd degree), the Royal Order of Scotland, and Khartum Temple Fife and Drum Band. Ken and Joan enjoyed hosting the annual Fife and Drum Shriners barbeque on the August Long Weekend, following the Icelandic Festival parade. Ken was a member of the St. Andrews Society of Winnipeg and was a founding member of the St. James-Assiniboia Kinsmen Club. Ken is lovingly described as a man of strong values and profound courage; he had a great sense of humour and a kindness that touched everyone who knew him. Ken always made an effort to include everyone, which clearly demonstrated his caring and thoughtful nature. The humility and manner in which he lived his life is a legacy he leaves to his family and all those whose lives he touched. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Cerebral Palsy Association, 1060 Ellice Ave., R3G 0C9, The Shrine Burn Fund, 1155 Wilkes Ave., R3P 1B9 or a charity of your choice.
