DOREEN PATRICIA SEARLES (nee FORD) September 12, 1934- April 23, 2004 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Doreen Searles, after a lengthy illness, on Friday, April 23, 2004 surrounded by her family at the Deer Lodge Personal Care Home in her 70th year of age. Doreens memory will be forever cherished by her devoted husband, Garry, of 50 years; and by her six children- sons, James and Sherry, Tom and Darlene, Hobie and Brenda, Ed and Angie; and daughters: Terry Cole and Robert, Sue Martin and Ric. Mom will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren: Jenny Searles and Christian, Sabrena Searles, Lindsay Searles, Adam Searles, Austin Searles, Crystal Cole, Tammy Cole, Alysha Martin and Angela Martin; and great-granddaughter Skye Stringer. Doreen was predeceased by her parents, Pearl and Henry Ford; her parents-in-law, Frederick and Anna Searles; sister-in-law Marion Searles; her brothers, Ken and Harold Ford; her brother-in-law Casey Sitarz Sr., and her grandson Johnathon Cole. Doreen was born and raised in Winnipeg with her siblings: Ken (Jean), Doug (Vera), Dorothy Fostey (Casey Sitarz Sr.), Harold, and Cliff (Lorraine). She met and married Garry in 1954 and together they ran a business and started a family. Mom devoted herself to caring for her growing family and supported her two sons and husband through serious illnesses. Doreen was also a great help to her mother and mother-in-law for many years. Mom was a talented seamstress who lovingly made clothing for her children. She was a wonderful cook and baker. She loved her husband, her children and grandchildren. Mom liked orchids, ice cream, listening to music, red wine, reading romance novels, visiting with friends and having a coffee and cigarette. Doreen worked as a cashier at Safeway for over 20 years, making good friendships and active in union activities. After she was diagnosed with dementia 18 years ago, Garry cared for Doreen, with the support of their children, family friends, Home Care and Deer Lodge. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 28, at 1:30 p.m. in Thomson "In the Park", Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. The family wishes to thank the Home Care staff who helped Mom from 1994 to 2000. Many thanks to the staff of Deer Lodge 5 West for their care and continual devotion over this past four years. We are also thankful for the support of Garry and Doreens close friends: Marie Johnson and Gil and Linda Richard, and numerous other friends and family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Boniface Hospitals Centre for Dementia Research, 409 Tache Ave., R2H 2A6.
