ESTHER HIRSCH The family of Esther Hirsch sadly announces her passing in Vancouver. Esther was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Rebecca Cohen; and by her beloved husband Louis. She is survived by her son Ronald (Madelene) of Vancouver and his sons, Lorne and Neil and by her son Brian (Debby) of Winnipeg and their sons, Michael and Aron. Esther was born on November 12, 1918 in London, England. She moved to Montreal as a young girl and grew up in this city that she loved. She met Lou in Montreal when they were both performing in an amateur production of a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta and they were married in 1943. Esther and Lou shared a bond of love and trust throughout their marriage and it was this bond that sustained them both through the difficult years of Lous battle with ALS. Esther was a strong, determined and independent woman. After Lous death in 1985, she moved to Vancouver where she pursued her interest in music. She sang in a Jewish seniors choir, learned to play the clarinet, and joined a seniors orchestra. Esther was a bright, capable person and an avid reader. She was well-informed and always ready for a lively discussion on almost any topic. She eagerly welcomed every opportunity to spend time with her children and grandchildren. We will miss her. A graveside funeral service was held in Montreal on Thursday, April 22, 2004.
