ENID VALERIE (formerly MURPHY) (nee SIGURDSON) It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce the passing of our Mom and Amma at the age of 54, on Friday, April 23, 2004 in Ottawa, after a year-long struggle with cancer. Her memory will be forever cherished by her children, Brad (Naomi) and Patrick, and grandchildren, Amanda, Brishen and Connor, all of Ottawa. Enid was predeceased by her father Franklin Sigurdson. Enid is survived by her mother Dora Sigurdson; sister Lorna Rothwell of Winnipeg; brothers, Wilfred Sigurdson of Victoria, Hugh Sigurdson of St. Laurent; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, many in-laws, and former husband, Rod Murphy. Enid grew up in Oak Point, and was educated there, St. Laurent, Winnipeg, Ottawa and Buenos Aires. She taught in Thompson, MB and spent several years as a professional translator in Ottawa. Throughout her life, Enids needs were always placed behind those of her children and grandchildren. She was a friend to all who knew her, and her compassion for others was genuine. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 1 at 1:30 p.m. at the First United Church, 397 Kent St. in Ottawa, with Rev. Carol Polley-Delisle officiating. Donations in Enids memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • We were friends with both Rod and Enid at the University of Winnipeg and worked on the yearbook together. We actually invited them to join us in Thompson but then we left and they stayed on. She was a kind person and always seemed to be smiling. She did visit us in Victoria for a short time. It was a shock to hear of her passing but as we understand it she was doing what she wanted to do. Our condolences to all her family. Rest in peace.
