ANNA WITSANKO On Sunday, April 25, 2004, the soul of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was set free! Anna was born February 12, 1924 in selo Koropatnyky, near Berezan, Western Ukraine to Tekla (Stasiuk) and Joseph Wowk. She had two brothers and four sisters. Anna was forced to leave her beloved Ukraine at the age of 15 to work in Germany where she learned to survive and there met her future husband Wasyl. Anna and her daughter came to Canada in 1951, a year after Wasyl who had come earlier to start a life for them. Anna worked hard most of her life and had many jobs. Her last job with Gunns Bakery was the most rewarding for her because she enjoyed working with her coworkers and her bosses. Anna loved people and had a good sense of humour. She was a religious person who belonged to Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral for over 30 years. She was a member of the UCWLC at the Cathedral. She enjoyed attending the Seniors Club at St. Nicholas and participated in many of their activities. Although Annas formal education was limited, she understood several languages and was an open minded and knowledgeable person in regards to other races, religions and customs. It was highly important for her to educate her children in the Catholic faith, Ukrainian language and the beautiful Ukrainian traditions. Still, she was proud to be Canadian. Ann loved the outdoors and gardening. She was skillful at needlepoint, and was a wonderful cook and baker. She was generous to her family in many ways in both Canada and Ukraine. She travelled twice to Ukraine to see family and friends. Anna was predeceased by her husband Wasyl, in August 1991. She is survived by a sister, nieces and nephews in Ukraine. Left to mourn and cherish her memory are her daughter Maria (David Robertson) her son Daniel; her grandchildren, Michael Robertson, Christine (Douglas Makichuk) and most of all, the joy of her life, her great-grandson Jordan. Prayers will be sung, 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 28 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated, 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 29 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. with Rev. M. Kouts officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. We wish to extend our thanks to the staff of Deer Lodge for making Anna feel and look like a lady, for making her smile and bringing her a little happiness into her life during the last four years she spent there.
