Hilton Wright of Pinawa, MB, born in Sherbrooke, QC, September 5, 1936, passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2004 at the Pinawa Hospital. He is survived by his wife Esther, daughter Sandra Webber (Scott), son Darin Wright (Tracy), three grandchildren and various relatives in Canada and the United States. Hilton grew up in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, where he was fortunate to have French playmates, relatives who lived on farms, and two grandfathers with whom he shared fishing and hunting experiences. In the summers, he worked on farms, on construction jobs, was a military cadet, and a counsellor at a camp on the Maine coast for two years. He graduated with a B.Sc. from Bishops University in 1957 and an M.Sc. from Carleton University in 1963. He moved to Ottawa in 1957 to work in the Physics Division at the national Research Council. In Ottawa, he met and married Esther in 1960. Hilton and Esther had many friends in Ottawa with whom they shared adventurous years together scuba diving, skiing, white-water canoeing and camping. Hilton maintained his interest in sports throughout his life. Hilton and Esther spent nine months in Berlin, Germany, in 1967, where he worked in a physics laboratory. Afterwards, they returned to Ottawa, where their daughter Sandra was born in 1968, and their son Darin in 1969. The family moved to Pinawa in 1971 where Hilton worked at the Whiteshell Research Establishment until his retirement in 1992. Hilton and Esther enjoyed many vacations together travelling in Europe and North America. Hilton was very proud of his three grandchildren, granddaughter Annaka Webber and two grandsons, Jared Webber and Ethan Wright. His most cherished memories were of his wife, children, and grandchildren, vacations at Fairmont Hot Springs, BC, skiing in the Rockies, white-water canoeing, and paddling some of the beautiful rivers of Quebec, Ontario and Manitoba. The family wants to thank the dedicated doctors, nurses and technicians at the Pinawa Hospital, as well as the home care nurses for their care and support over the years, and particularly during the recent months. Cremation has taken place and in compliance with his wishes, a small graveside gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, April 29 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pinawa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Hiltons memory to the Pinawa Hospital, Pinawa, MB ROE 1LO.
